To quilt the leaves in the center block I xeroxed leaf prints onto water-soluble paper and machine quilted over the paper. When washed, the paper dissolved. I used 30-weight polyester top-stiching thread for the leaf stiching. I like the way it "floats" on the fabric surface. Polyester batting gives a loftier look.
